Solution (applicable to Spanish-language Illustrator only)

Due to a recent change in Windows 8.1, a newer version of an Illustrator file (Alcid.dll) must be placed in your Illustrator installation directory. Follow the steps in the procedure outlined below:
Caution:
Care must be taken to ensure you download, extract, and replace the right file (32- and 64-bit) for your Illustrator installation.
  1. On a computer that has Spanish-language Illustrator installed, download the appropriate archive file:
    Note:
References to 32- and 64-bit are Illustrator-specific, and not OS-specific. For example, if you are using 32-bit Illustrator on a 64-bit computer, you must download the 32-bit file.
  2. Extract the contents of the archive file to a folder. In the extracted files, depending on which bit-type you chose, the required Alcid.dll file is found in the 32Bit or 64Bitfolder.
  3. Copy the Alcid.dll file to:
    • For 32-bit Illustrator: \Adobe Illustrator CC\Support Files\Contents\Windows
    • For 64-bit Illustrator: \Adobe Illustrator CC (64 Bit)\Support Files\Contents\Windows
If you have Illustrator CS6, in the folder paths listed above, replace CC with CS6.
  4. When Windows prompts you for confirmation, choose to replace and overwrite the existing Alcid.dll file.
  5. Start Illustrator.
  6. If Illustrator fails to start, or you encounter an error 'Alcid.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again...', check again if the right bit-type file has been placed in the specific bit-type Illustrator folder.
